5.2. Managing categories and subcategories |
|
 |
|
As youd expect, ViArt Shop allows you to fully manage your products by categories. The ViArt system supports a multi-level category tree, therefore you can add as many sub-categories as you require.
The main default scheme of the category tree is as the following:
As has already been discussed, there is a root category named 'Top' and by default all other existing categories are its sub-categories. Products assigned to the 'Top' category are shown on the 'Products' page of your site.
Appearance
The category tree can be displayed on three pages: Main page, List product page, Product details page.
It is also possible to specify four different views of the category tree: one-level, two-level, multi-level or tree-type. In order to set this up, please go to Administration > ViArt CMS > Site Layout > page you want the tree to be displayed at (Home page layout, Product listing page or Products detail page). Here you will need to select the 'Products (Categories list)' block and specify its settings.
Browsing category tree
In general, in order to find a necessary product, your customers will have to take the following steps:
- Start to browse the category tree from the main page or the product page
- Locate the sub-category that gives the best fit to his/her search criteria
- Choose the product he/she wants
Almost the same actions should be performed from the administration side of the store.
In order to manage the category tree you need to:
- go to Administration > Products > Products & Categories
What you see is the 'Top' category with its sub-categories on the left, and the assigned products on the right.
- Click on the name of the category you want to browse
Once again, the sub-categories will be shown on the left and the assigned products on the right.
